In 1804 Richard Trevithick, a British inventor and mining engineer, built the first steam locomotive, which was able to carry up to one ton of load. For the first ride, it pulled several wagons with 70 people and some goods. They traveled nine miles in South Wales and it took them more than two hours. George Stephenson, another British engineer, played a great role in adoption and further development of the steam engine. In 1825, Stockton& Darlington, the first railroad company began to carry people and merchandise. They had the first train rides with a regular schedule. Their locomotives were based on Stephenson's further development, they were able to carry about 450 people at nine miles per hour.
